Abstract
In contrast to medical security system in Korea, most of developed countries have been administrating the medical security for the elderly exclusively. At present, the necessity of a financial resource for medical insurance for the elderly is increasing. This study was intended to analyze the medical security for the elderly putting emphasis on medical insurance in U.s The main findings of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The charge for financial resource of medical security for the elderly is divided by public sector and private sector. 2. A comprehensive medical service system for the elderly and an appropriate reimbursement system have been established. 3. An method for cost containment is being developed continuously. 4. The insured¡¯s utilization pattern is changing from medical care in hospital to medical care in nursing home or home care. A limited benefit of medical insurance system in Korea is dissatisfaction factor both the elderly and the supplier. To meet the old¡¯s need for medical service are necessary for the method of activating private insurance.
